We’re working hard to make your privacy and rights are understandable for students.

We are Upskill Global Limited, a company based in London. You can contact us by using the ‘Get in touch’ buttons in Upskill Me or emailing us at info@upskillme.io.

Upskill Me is an online platform allowing students aged 13 and over to develop, record and showcase their skills to universities and employers.

It will allow you to record, track and reflect on your achievements and skill growth. It will also give you access to information about work experience, career events, learning opportunities and resources.

We know that younger students have different needs than older students. That’s why Upskill Me comes in two versions:

For students – aged 13 to 15. Limited

No matter how old you are, you can use Upskill Me to record your achievements, qualifications and interests. You can set and track your goals, earn points and badges and access e-learning resources. You will also receive from us information about work experience, career events and other opportunities.

You will also have the choice of creating your own public employment profile on Upskill Me and share it with your chosen teachers or prospective employers when applying for work experience or volunteering opportunities.

For students aged 16 and over: Advanced

If you are 16 years old or older you can also choose to publish your employment profile on the Upskill Me employer talent pool and receive direct messages from potential employers. 

If you use Upskill Me, this notice will explain you what personal information about you we collect, how we use it and why. It will also tell you what rights you have.If the information provided in this Privacy Notice for Students is too basic for you, you can learn more by reading our full Data Protection Statement and Privacy Notice.

Personal data means information about you that can identify you. 

Under data protection laws, we can only use your personal data if we have a proper reason for doing so.

For example:
• you agreed for us to use your personal data; or
• it is necessary to fulfil our contractual obligation to you, or to fulfil our legal obligation, or for our legitimate interests.
 

When you create your Upskill Me Account

We use:

  • your name
  • school email
  • school name
  • password

to provide Upskill Me to you and keep your information secure, for example, to:

  • run your account;
  • allow you to make use of Upskill Me’s features;
  • tell you about change to our rules or services; and
  • keep your information and our website secure,

because it is necessary:

When you create your Upskill Me Account

We use:

  • date of birth
  • year group

to protect your privacy and provide you with Upskill Me features and information appropriate to your age, for example, to:

  • check your age;
  • provide you with age-appropriate features and resources (for example, to ensure you are eligible for work experience); and
  • correctly protect your privacy,

because it is necessary:

When you enter your profile data onto your Upskill Me account

We use your:

  • subjects studied
  • qualifications and results (e.g. GCSE & A-Levels)
  • GCSE/A-Level subjects studied
  • achievements, certificates and awards
  • skills
  • interests
  • work experience
  • multi-media projects
  • photos and other evidence of your achievements

to provide Upskill Me to you, for example, to:

  • allow you to make use of Upskill Me’s features;
  • help your teacher to support your development;
  • help your charity programme leader to support your development;
  • help universities and employers to reach students with their opportunities;
  • help us better understand and support you; and
  • understand how Upskill Me is used, what does and doesn’t work, what can be improved,

because it is necessary:

When you enter your diversity information onto Upskill Me and allow us to use it

We use information about

  • your gender
  • your ethnicity
  • whether you get free school meals 

to ensure that we provide everyone with equal opportunities, for example, to:

  • help universities, employers and other organisations we work with to ensure that they provide equal opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds; and
  • help us better understand and support you, 

if you agree to that.
 

When you allow us to use your data to give you information about opportunities relevant to you

We use your

  • profile information (see above); and
  • your diversity information (see above)

to give you access to information and opportunities relevant to your profile and diversity characteristics, to:

  • ensure that the content and opportunities we let you know about are relevant to you; and
  • help universities and employers to reach you with opportunities relevant to you, 

if you agree to that. 

When you choose to make your employment profile public

We use your employment profile information:

to help you secure career opportunities, for example, to:

  • help you to showcase your skills, achievements and qualifications;
  • enable you to apply for job and other opportunities using your profile; and
  • enable universities and employers we work with to reach you directly about their opportunities,

if you agree to that.

When you agree to receive our marketing communication

We use your contact details

  • your school email
  • your telephone number

to provide you with information about opportunities which may be of interest to you, for example, to:

  • send you messages about our content and services (for example, e-Learning available on Upskill Me, our competitions); or
  • send you messages about opportunities available at the universities and employers we work with (for example, job, work experience, career event and learning opportunities,

if you agree to that.
 

If we use your personal information because you agreed to that, you can always change your mind.

You can change your preferences by:

Your teacher

Your teacher can send you an invite to register with Upskill Me. They can check if you have joined or when you last used Upskill Me to support your development.

When you apply for opportunities through Upskill Me, your teacher may also view your profile information in order to assist you with your application.

If you are 16 years old or older and choose to share your profile information on Upskill Me, your teacher and the universities and employers.

Your youth charity

Your youth charity leader can send you an invite to register with Upskill Me. They can check if you have joined or when you last used Upskill Me to support your development. They can only see the activity information logged under their youth charity, rather than all of your activity data. 

When you apply for opportunities through Upskill Me, your youth charity leader may also view your profile information in order to assist you with your application.

If you are under 16 years of age and choose to share your profile information on Upskill Me, your youth charity leader and the universities and employers we work with will be able to view the profile information you chose to publish.

The universities and employers we work with

If you choose to share a link to your public Upskill Me employment profile with your chosen teacher, youth charity leader, university or employer, they will be able to view all information in your profile.

If you choose to make your employment profile public within the Upskill Me employer talent pool, the universities and employers we work with will be able to view all information in your profile.

If you apply for opportunities through Upskill Me, the university, employer or other organisation you are applying to will receive your application details and may contact you directly.

Because this is your personal data, you (or your parent or guardian) can ask us:

  • How and why we use your information
  • to send you a copy of information we hold about you
  • to send a copy of information you gave us to another organisation
  • to correct and incorrect information
  • to stop using your information
  • to stop sending you information

Sometimes we may have to refuse to fulfil your request or will only be able to fulfil it in part. But we would only do that if necessary and lawful.
